4 years ago, a member of the Welsh League of Arizona, one Tony Burley, proposed that we take
up the mission of promoting and financing student exchanges between US and Welsh Universities. This
week we got a message from the first Student who participated in the program. He announced that he
had achieved a 1 st Class Honors degree in Engineering from Cardiff University!

Following a suggestion from a member, in 2016 the Welsh League decided to support student
exchanges between US and Welsh Universities. We learned recently, that our first participant had just
obtained a 1 st Class Honors Degree in Engineering from Cardiff. Well done all members who were
involved –time to celebrate!

As a new Engineer, with his professional life ahead of him, our Graduate could make a profound
impact on society, on Wales and the Welsh economy. The Welsh League was a significant contributor to
establishing this opportunity. Well done to all participants, who had fun whilst being involved.
How can we celebrate our success given the current restrictive environment? A major event on
the Welsh calendar, is the September “Abergavenny Food Festival”. It is a very popular weekend event
that draws people from all over the UK. However, due to the Pandemic the 2020 edition has been
cancelled.
Why don’t we step in with a “Welsh League of Arizona/ Abergavenny Food Festival”?
