Our March meeting/special celebration of St. David's Day
held at the Tubbs residence was another success for us and a
great time was had by all.  Thank you, Graham and Kathleen!
Our president John Good joined forces with storyteller Liz Warren.
Together, they call themselves "Mythic Crew" and presented the
first branch of the Mabinogion (Medieval Welsh Tales) for the
Welsh League meeting in a free performance.  It was easy to see why
these gifted performers perform to international acclaim.

AUGUST MEETING
Our annual pub quiz,
held this year at Fibber Magees in
Chandler, proved once again to be one of the most spirited
meetings of our year.  Almost two dozen jolly folks braved the
heat and joined us for a lighthearted afternoon.

After a month of partying and festivals we welcomed spring with a
meeting in April to introduce us to more good stories!
Our member Lynn Watts, a librarian who teaches the Tucson
language class, spoke to us about fiction related to Wales and the
Welsh.  She covered several categories, including
the Mabinogi, Arthur, historical fiction, and fantasy in Wales
past and present.

The beautiful, true story of a famous
Welsh Gypsy is set in Gwynedd in the
1930’s. This drama won five “BAFTA”
(equivalent of Oscar in Wales) awards.  It
is based on the childhood of real life
Romani Eldra Roberts, a descendant of
the famous Abram Wood/Roberts Welsh
Gypsy tribe. The film was produced by
Teliesyn for S4C.
The soundtrack is by Robin Huw Bowen,
celebrated triple harpist and favorite with
Welsh League of Arizona audiences.
 This
film is presented in the Welsh language
with English subtitles.
